Set up delivery zones
Limit where a location delivers with a radius or custom map area, set different zones per order type, and copy a zone to other locations.
Who is this article for?
- Gegsy merchants who want to control exactly how far a location delivers, instead of relying on a single distance for the whole business.
- Anyone with the Locations permission. The account owner has it by default and can grant it to others from Account → Team.
About delivery zones
A delivery zone defines the area a single location will deliver to. Customers outside the zone aren't offered delivery for that location. Each location can have its own zone, and you can set a different area for regular, catering, and group orders.
Zones can only narrow the area your delivery provider already covers — they don't extend it. If you use Managed Delivery through a third-party courier partner (the partner available to you depends on your location), the zone limits the area within that partner's existing coverage.
Before you begin
- The location needs map coordinates. These come from the location's address, so set the address first. Without coordinates the zone can't be drawn.
- Delivery zones are available on every plan.
Open the Delivery Zone tab
- Open Locations (
https://app.gegsy.com/locations). - Select Edit (the pencil) on the location you want to set up.
- Open the Delivery Zone tab.
Turn delivery zones on or off
At the top of the tab is a single switch that controls whether this location uses a zone at all.
- Off — delivery follows your provider's coverage with no extra limit. The tab shows: "Delivery follows your provider's coverage. Turn this on to limit the delivery area for this location."
- On — the zone controls appear, and you can restrict the area.
When it's on, the tab explains the effect: "Restrict where this location delivers. Customers outside the zone won't be offered delivery. This can only narrow the coverage your delivery provider already supports."
Choose the order type
Use the Order type control to pick which kind of order you're setting a zone for:
- Regular
- Catering
- Group
You set coverage separately for each one, so you can (for example) deliver regular orders within a small area but accept catering further out.
Set coverage for the order type
The Coverage control decides how the selected order type is limited:
- No limit — that order type uses your delivery provider's full coverage. The hint reads: "{order type} orders use your delivery provider's full coverage."
- Same as regular — (Catering and Group only) the order type reuses whatever zone you set for regular orders. The hint reads: "{order type} orders use the same zone as regular orders." This option isn't shown for Regular itself.
- Custom — draw a specific area for this order type, using the map below.
Regular orders only offer No limit and Custom. Because catering and group can mirror regular, they also get Same as regular.
Draw a custom zone
When Coverage is set to Custom, choose the Zone shape:
Radius
A circle around the location.
- Set Zone shape to Radius.
- Enter a value in Radius (miles). The helper text reads: "Deliver within this many miles of the location."
- The map updates to show the circle around your location.
The location is marked on the map with your logo so you can see the zone relative to your storefront.
Polygon
A custom shape you draw on the map — useful when your delivery area isn't a neat circle (for example, to follow a river, highway, or neighborhood boundary).
- Set Zone shape to Polygon.
- Follow the on-screen instructions: "Click the map to add points. Add at least 3 points to form a delivery area. Drag a point to adjust it."
- Each point you add is listed with its number and coordinates. Remove a single point with the close (x) on its tag.
- You need at least three points for a valid area. Until then the tab shows: "Add at least 3 points to form a valid area."
- To start over, select Clear points.
Apply the same zone to other locations
If you run more than one location, you can copy the zone you've set to others instead of redoing it each time. This section appears below the map as Apply to other locations.
- Set up the zone you want to reuse.
- Under Apply to other locations, check the locations you want to copy it to. Locations that already have the same settings are marked Matches and pre-selected.
- If you have many locations, use Search locations… to filter, and Select all / Deselect all to toggle the filtered list at once.
- Select Copy to {count} location(s), then confirm.
Radius zones re-center on each location's own coordinates, so a 5-mile radius stays centered on each store, not on the one you copied from.
Polygons can't be copied, because a drawn shape is tied to this location's specific spot on the map. If any order type uses a custom polygon, this section shows: "This zone uses a custom polygon, which is tied to this location's map and can't be applied to others. Switch every order type to a radius (or No limit) to apply." Switch every order type to Radius or No limit to enable copying.
Save your changes
Delivery-zone edits are saved with the rest of the location. Select Save changes at the bottom of the editor to apply them. Copying a zone to other locations with Copy to {count} location(s) is applied immediately when you confirm.
How zones affect what customers see
Once a zone is active for an order type, customers entering a delivery address outside that area won't be offered delivery from this location for that order type. Inside the zone, delivery is offered as usual. Because the zone only narrows your provider's coverage, an address inside your zone but outside your provider's reach still can't be delivered to.
