Gegsy started because the tools available to independent restaurants were too expensive, too complicated, or didn't work with Square. So we built something better.
Our Story
Gegsy was founded by Briant Almonte, the owner of Empanada City — a family-owned Puerto Rican and Dominican empanada shop in Brooklyn, NY.
Running Empanada City on Square, Briant experienced firsthand what every independent restaurant owner deals with: third-party delivery apps taking 15–30% of every order, app platforms that cost hundreds of dollars a month, and tools that didn't integrate properly with Square — forcing double data entry, mismatched menus, and hours of extra work every week.
He wanted something that didn't exist yet — an affordable, branded mobile app and online ordering website that synced with Square in real time, handled delivery and catering, supported loyalty and push notifications, and didn't charge commission on every order.
So he built it.
Gegsy started as the solution for Empanada City. Today it powers branded apps and web storefronts for restaurants, coffee shops, bakeries, and more across the country. Every feature in Gegsy comes from the real experience of running a restaurant on Square — not from a boardroom or a pitch deck.
