Manage your media library
Upload images, copy their URLs, add alt text, see where each file is used, and clean up unused media from the Media library.
Who is this article for?
- Gegsy merchants who want one place to upload, describe, reuse, and clean up the images and videos used across their website, banners, posts, gift cards, and app branding.
About the media library
The Media page is your account-wide library. Every image and video you upload — from the website designer, a banner, a post, or the library itself — shows up here so you can reuse it, keep its alt text in one place, see where it's used, and delete what you no longer need.
Open it from Media (https://app.gegsy.com/media). Files you uploaded before the library existed appear here automatically.
Upload files
- Select Upload at the top of the page.
- Choose one or more images — JPG, PNG, WebP, or GIF, up to 5MB each.
When you upload a single file, its File details open right away so you can add alt text while the image is fresh in your mind. When you upload several at once, a notice reminds you to add alt text — the missing alt text banner keeps track of any you skip.
You can also add files from the page you're working on — for example the website designer or a banner — and they'll appear here automatically.
Find a file
The toolbar filters the whole library instantly:
- Search by name, alt text, or tag.
- All sources — narrow to where files came from (website, banners, posts, and so on).
- All types — images or videos.
- All files / In use / Not used — filter by whether a file is used anywhere. Run Scan usage first so this reflects the latest state of your content.
- Sort — Newest first, Oldest first, Name (A–Z), Name (Z–A), Largest first, or Smallest first.
- Missing alt text — show only files that still need a description.
- Switch between grid and list view, and use Clear filters to reset.
Check where a file is used
Select Scan usage to check your website, banners, posts, and other content for every file. When it finishes you'll see a summary — for example, Checked 120 file(s) · 14 not used anywhere — and each file's card shows In use or Not used. A file's details list exactly where it's used.
View and edit a file's details
Click any file to open File details:
- File name, Source, Size, Dimensions, Uploaded, and Usage last checked.
- Used in — the list of places the file appears, or Not used anywhere yet.
- Copy URL — copies the file's hosted web address, ready to paste into a Custom HTML section on your website or anywhere else you need it.
- Alt text — a short description read aloud by screen readers and shown if the image fails to load. Add it once here and it carries everywhere the file is used.
- This image is decorative — tick this only for backgrounds, textures, and dividers that carry no information; screen readers will skip them. (Videos don't take alt text.)
- Title (optional) and Tags (optional) — a name and comma-separated tags to make the file easier to find later.
Keep your images described
Alt text makes your site usable with screen readers and helps it rank in search. When files are missing descriptions, a banner shows the count with a Review them button that filters straight to them. Files that still need attention are also badged Needs alt text on their cards.
Select files and clean up
- Tick the checkbox on any file to start a selection, or use Select all (N) in the toolbar to select everything that matches your current filters — for example, filter to Not used, then Select all to grab every unused file at once. In list view, the header checkbox does the same.
- The selection bar shows how many files are selected, with Clear selection, Select all unused, and Delete selected.
Delete files
Deleting is permanent — the file is removed from storage, and anywhere it's still used would show a broken image. Gegsy protects you two ways:
- Deleting a single file asks you to confirm, and shows the file name.
- Deleting multiple files additionally asks you to type delete to confirm before the button enables.
- Files that are still in use refuse to delete — you'll see exactly where each one is used so you can remove it from your content first.
Get an image URL for Custom HTML
If you're building a Custom HTML section on your website, you don't need to leave the designer — its editor has its own Images helper to upload or pick a file and copy its URL. For everything else, upload here and use Copy URL from the file's details.
