Set up the store card
Turn on the store card so customers can load a prepaid balance, earn bonus value, and pay with it at checkout.
Who is this article for?
- Gegsy merchants who want to let customers preload funds and pay from a stored balance.
- Owners and employees with the Store Card permission.
About the store card
The store card is a prepaid, reloadable balance your customers can top up and then spend on future orders. You define one or more load amounts, optionally sweeten each one with a bonus discount, and set a cap on how much a customer can hold. The card is provisioned through Square as a per-customer store/gift card, so balances are tracked alongside your other Square activity.
The store card works for pickup, in-house delivery, and in-store orders only. It is not available for Managed Delivery orders handled by a third-party courier partner.
Before you begin
- Open Operations → Store Card at
https://app.gegsy.com/operations/store-card. - Access is gated by the Store Card permission. Account owners have it by default and can grant it to employees.
- Have your Square account connected, since store card balances are provisioned through Square.
Turn on the store card
- Go to Operations → Store Card. The page shows the Store Card Plans card with the note: "Allow customers to load a store card with funds to use over time."
- Switch on Enable store card.
- The configuration fields appear below the toggle. Fill them in, then choose Save changes.
When the store card is off, none of the configuration fields are required. If you turn it on, Gegsy validates your settings before saving.
Set the maximum balance
The Max load field sets the cap on how much a customer can hold on the card at once. The helper text reads: "Maximum amount a customer can hold on the card." Enter the amount in your store's currency; the value must be greater than zero.
Add load amount plans
Plans are the preset top-up options your customers choose from. You can create up to three.
- For each plan, set the Load Amount — the amount the customer pays to top up. It must be greater than zero and cannot exceed your Max load amount.
- Choose a Discount Type to add optional bonus value on top of the load:
- Absolute — a fixed bonus amount in your currency. It must be less than the load amount.
- Percent — a percentage bonus. It must be between 1 and 99.
- Enter the Discount Amount (optional). Leave it at zero for a straight top-up with no bonus.
- To add another option, choose + Add Plan (available until you have three plans). To delete a plan, choose Remove next to it. The Remove button appears only when more than one plan exists.
Save your settings
Choose Save changes at the bottom of the page. If the store card is enabled, Gegsy checks your entries first and flags anything that needs fixing, for example:
- A missing or zero Max load amount.
- A plan Load Amount that is empty, zero, or larger than the Max load.
- An Absolute discount that is greater than or equal to its load amount.
- A Percent discount outside the 1–99 range.
Once saved, the store card and its plans become available to customers in your app and storefront.
