Create promotional banners

Build promotional banners for your app and storefront — pick a format, add an image and message, link the call-to-action, and schedule when it shows.

Who is this article for?

  • Gegsy merchants who want to promote offers, announcements, or featured items with banners in their mobile app and online storefront.

About banners

Banners are promotional messages you place in your customer app and storefront. Each banner can show an image, icon, or video alongside a short message, and an optional call-to-action button that sends the customer somewhere useful — a category, an item, a coupon, an app page, or an external link. You control when each banner appears and how often a customer sees it.

Banners are available on all plans. Access is controlled by the Banners permission. Account owners have it by default and can grant it to employees who manage marketing.

Before you begin

  • Make sure you have the Banners permission. Owners can grant it to an employee from their team settings.
  • If you plan to link a banner to a coupon, item, or category, create that first so it's available to select.

Find your banners

Open Marketing → Banners (https://app.gegsy.com/marketing/banners). The list shows every banner you've built, with its Type, Style, Message, Date Availability, Frequency, an Active toggle, and a Status badge.

Use the tabs at the top to filter by status: All, Live, Scheduled, Expired, or Hidden. Search by message text in the Search by message… box. A banner's status is derived automatically:

  • Live — currently visible.
  • Scheduled — its start date is in the future.
  • Expired — its end date has passed.
  • Hidden — its Active toggle is off.

Build a banner

  1. On the Banners page, click Build a banner.
  2. In the Details section, choose a Banner Type:
  • Banner — an inline strip with an icon or image and a short message. Shows in both the app and the storefront.
  • Fullscreen — a full-screen takeover in the mobile app, with an image, video, or no media.
  • Welcome — a hero image on your app's welcome screen.
  1. Set the banner Style (this depends on the type — see Choose a style and media below).
  2. Enter a Message (up to 60 characters). A message is required for every banner except a full-screen or welcome banner that uses an image.
  3. Set up the call-to-action under Button Link if you want a tappable button.
  4. Set when it appears under Scheduling.
  5. Click Save changes.

To edit an existing banner later, click the pencil icon on its row. To remove one, click the trash icon and confirm in the Just making sure dialog.

Choose where the banner appears

For the Banner type, a Show on option lets you target surfaces:

  • Storefront and App
  • Storefront only
  • App only

Welcome and full-screen banners only appear in the mobile app, so this option is hidden for those formats.

Choose a style and media

The style options change with the banner type.

Banner

  • Icon Banner — "This style shows a simple icon and text banner. Ideal for quick, attention-grabbing messages!" Pick one of the built-in icons (Bell, Bolt, Camera, Discount, Heart, Info Circle, Map, Megaphone, Smile, Star) from Select Icon.
  • Image Banner — "Upload an image for your banner (Recommended: 300x300)."

Fullscreen

  • No Media — show the message over your brand background, with no image or video.
  • Image or MP4 Banner — "Upload an image or MP4 video for your fullscreen banner (Recommended: 1080x1920px)."
  • Video Banner — "Enter a YouTube video URL for your fullscreen banner." Paste a valid YouTube link.

Welcome

  • Welcome hero image — "Upload an image for your welcome screen hero (Recommended: 1080x1920px)." Welcome banners are image-only.

To add an image or video, drop a file on the upload area or click it to browse ("Drop files here or click to upload."). Images open a cropper so you can frame them — drag to position, use the slider to zoom, then click Save changes. Accepted file types are JPG, PNG, GIF, or MP4 (welcome banners accept images only), and files must be 2MB or smaller. Use Remove media to clear an uploaded file.

Add a call-to-action button

In the Button Link section, set Link button to to control where the button sends the customer:

  • None — no button.
  • External URL — any web address you enter (for example, https://mybusinessname.com).
  • App Page — a built-in page in your app; pick it from the selector.
  • Item — a specific menu item; search and select it.
  • Category — a menu category; search and select it.
  • Coupon — a coupon; select it so the button applies that coupon code for the customer.

When a link target is set, enter the Button Text the customer will see (up to 24 characters). Button text is required whenever a link is chosen. Welcome banners always require a button link.

Schedule when the banner shows

In the Scheduling section, set the window and cadence. The helper text notes: "If no start or end date is specified, the banner will remain visible indefinitely."

  • Start Date (Optional) and End Date (Optional) — the date window. Use Clear to remove an end date.
  • Start Time and End Time — the daily time window the banner is visible. End time must be later than start time.
  • Frequency — how often a returning customer sees it: Every Visit, Once Per Day, or One Time.
  • Every day of the week — leave on to show it daily, or turn it off and pick specific days (Sun–Sat). This option is hidden when frequency is One Time.

Use the Visible to customers toggle to control whether the banner is shown at all: "Hide a banner if you'd like to keep it for later without showing it." A hidden banner shows the Hidden status. You can also flip the Active toggle directly from the banners list.

Preview before you save

The editor shows a Live preview as you build — "Here's roughly how this banner will look in your app." Pick a banner type to start the preview. The preview reflects your message, media, button, and brand colors, so you can check the layout before saving.
