Set up your loyalty program

Review your Square loyalty program in Gegsy, then configure app incentives, a customer referral program, and a loyalty icon.

  • Gegsy merchants who want to reward repeat customers with points and turn that program into a reason to download and order from the app.

About loyalty

Your loyalty program rewards customers with points (in whatever terminology you choose, such as Stars) that they earn when they order and redeem for rewards. The program itself — your terminology, how points are earned, and what they're redeemed for — is managed on Square. Gegsy reads that program and shows it here so you can confirm it's set up correctly, and adds three things Square doesn't: App Incentives to encourage app downloads, a Customer Referral Program, and a custom Loyalty Icon for your app.

Open Marketing → Loyalty (https://app.gegsy.com/marketing/loyalty).

Before you begin

  • A connected Square account with a loyalty program created in Square. If you don't have one, the page shows Loyalty Program Details with the note: "You currently do not have a Loyalty program associated with your Square account. Please visit Square if you'd like to add one." Create the program in Square first, then return here.
  • Access to the Loyalty permission. Account owners have it by default and can grant it to employees.

Sync your loyalty program from Square

Your program is created and edited in Square, so Gegsy needs to pull the latest version.

  1. Select Sync with Square at the top of the page. (This button is disabled until your Square connection is valid.)
  2. Wait for the confirmation — you'll see "Successfully synced loyalty with Square!" If the sync times out, wait a moment and try again.

If your program is turned off in Square, the page shows a Loyalty Program Inactive warning: "Your loyalty program is currently inactive in Square. Please go to your Square Dashboard to activate it." Activate it in Square and sync again.

To change the program after syncing, the Loyalty Program Details card reminds you: your loyalty program is managed on Square. To make updates, go to the Loyalty section of your Square dashboard, then sync again here.

Review your program details

These cards are read-only in Gegsy — they reflect exactly what you configured in Square.

  • Terminology — the Singular and Plural names for your points (for example, the word a customer sees for one point versus many).
  • Earning [points] — your accrual rules, shown as a Rule Value and a Rule Description. Depending on how each rule is set in Square, the description reads like "Earn points for every visit" with a minimum purchase, "for every amount spent in a single transaction," "for every [item] purchased," or "for any item in [category] purchased."
  • Redeeming rewards — your reward tiers, shown as a Reward value (the points required) and a Reward Description (what the customer gets).

The accrual and reward tables show one row by default. Use Show more to expand the full list and Show less to collapse it.

Set up app incentives

App Incentives let you give bonus points to nudge customers toward downloading and ordering through your app. Find them in the App Incentives card.

  1. Turn on Enable App Incentives. The event-driven options appear once it's on.
  2. Under Event Driven Incentives, choose which events award points:
  • App Download & Sign Up — award points when a customer downloads the app and creates an account. When on, enter the number of points in the No. of [points] field.
  • Successful Order — award points when a customer completes an order. When on, enter the points in No. of [points], and optionally turn on 1st Order Only to limit the bonus to the customer's first order.
  1. To give a free product, turn on Free Item with First Order, then pick a Promotion Type:
  • Specific Item — choose one item with Select Item.
  • Any Item from Category — choose a category with Select Category.
  1. Select Save.

Point fields must be greater than 0 when the matching incentive is on, and you must pick an item or category when the free-item promotion is on, or the save is blocked.

Set up the customer referral program

The Customer Referral Program rewards existing customers with points when they invite friends and family to your app.

  1. Turn on Enable Referral Program.
  2. In [points] per referral, enter how many points the referrer earns. As the helper text explains: the referring customer earns this many points for each friend they successfully refer.
  3. Select Save.

The referral points must be greater than 0 when the program is on.

Upload a loyalty icon

Use the Loyalty Icon card to upload a custom icon that represents your loyalty terminology in your app.

  1. Drag an image onto the dropzone, or click it to browse. The prompt reads "Drop JPG, PNG, or GIF here or click to upload."
  2. The icon uploads and is saved automatically. To replace it later, select Change Image and upload a new one.

Only JPG, PNG, and GIF files are accepted.
