Set up redirects

Create and manage URL redirects for your Gegsy storefront so moved or renamed pages keep their SEO and visitors never hit a dead link.

Who is this article for?

  • Gegsy merchants on the Pro and Premium plans who move, rename, or retire storefront pages and want old links to keep working.
  • Owners and employees with the Redirects permission.

About redirects

A redirect sends visitors who land on an old URL path to a new destination automatically. Use redirects to preserve SEO when pages are moved or renamed, so search rankings and any links pointing at the old address carry over to the new one. Gegsy also creates redirects automatically when you change a page slug, so you'll see those listed alongside the ones you add by hand.

You'll find redirects under Storefront → Redirects (https://app.gegsy.com/storefront/redirects).

Before you begin

  • Available on the Pro and Premium plans. See Gegsy pricing.
  • Access is gated by the Redirects permission. Account owners have it by default and can grant it to employees.

Understand the redirects list

Each row on the Redirects page shows one redirect with these columns:

  • Source — the old URL path that triggers the redirect.
  • Destination — where visitors are sent.
  • Type — the status code, either 301 or 302.
  • Match — whether the rule is an exact match or a prefix match.
  • Active — a switch that turns the redirect on or off without deleting it.
  • OriginManual if you created the redirect, or Auto if Gegsy created it automatically (for example, when you changed a page slug).
  • Created — the date the redirect was added.

A count above the list tells you how many redirects you have. If you don't have any yet, you'll see No redirects yet with a short explanation.

Add a redirect

  1. Open Storefront → Redirects.
  2. Select Add Redirect.
  3. In Source path, enter the old URL path that should redirect (for example, /old-page). The helper text reads: The old URL path that should redirect. Source paths are saved lowercase with any trailing slash removed, and a leading / is added if you leave it off.
  4. Choose the Destination. Switch between two modes:
  • Page — search your storefront and pick a destination. Use the Search pages, blog posts... box to filter, then choose from Quick Links (such as Home or Order Page), Pages, or Blog Posts. The selected path appears under Selected:.
  • Custom URL — type the destination yourself, such as /new-page or a full https://... address. The helper text reads: Where visitors should be sent.
  1. Set the Status code:
  • 301 — Permanent
  • 302 — Temporary

The helper text reads: 301 tells search engines the move is permanent. 302 is for temporary changes.

  1. Set the Match type:
  • Exact matchOnly redirects this exact URL path.
  • Prefix matchCatches all URLs starting with this path. e.g. /old-blog redirects /old-blog/post-1, /old-blog/post-2, etc.
  1. Leave the Active switch on to make the redirect live, or turn it off to save it without activating it.
  2. Select Create.

Source and destination are both required, and they can't be the same path — Gegsy will warn you if either rule is broken.

Edit a redirect

  1. On the Redirects page, find the redirect you want to change.
  2. Select the edit (pencil) icon on that row.
  3. Update the Source path, Destination, Status code, Match type, or Active state in the Edit Redirect window.
  4. Select Update.

To turn a redirect on or off quickly without opening it, use the Active switch directly on its row.

Delete a redirect

  1. On the Redirects page, find the redirect you want to remove.
  2. Select the delete (trash) icon on that row.
  3. In the Delete Redirect window, confirm that you want to delete the redirect from the source path shown.
  4. Select Delete.

Deleting a redirect is permanent. If you only want to pause it, turn off its Active switch instead.
